January’s special flower

carnation

January’s special flower is

the beautiful carnation.

I love carnations

and think they always look great

even when they’re just shoved into a vase.

I don’t have any preference for colour.

Pink

White

Yellow

Red

Whatever their colour carnations are delightful.

And carnations always work so well as part of an arrangement.

Carnations have been very popular for decades as seen in these two great film clips from Pathe News.

Growing carnations in 1939

and in 1966.

  1. I love scented carnations. I’m growing some heritage malmaison varieties. Very tricky to grow, but totally beautiful. I’ve written about them on my blog. All the best. Karen
